Do not have the mindset that you are going to be comfortable at the camp because you are going there to receive great training and discipline. You can’t sleep and wake anytime you like! So, you might want to prepare yourself very well!
NYSC Orientation Camp Requirements
The orientation camp is always fun and turns out most times to be the best part of NYSC.
Note, You’re to wear Mufti to camp (trousers and polo with shoes or sandals is okay).
Please go to where you are posted early. Even if you would go by flight, make sure you go a day before.
Late? I will advise you not to go late to the camp but you can decide to go late to the camp after all you have the right to decide for yourself just that the soldiers may not allow you to enter. You only have the grace of three days, else you will need a solid excuse!

- Original copy of your call-up letter

NYSC Camp Registration Procedure
Here is the procedure for registration at the NYSC orientation camp:
- When you arrive at the camp gate, you must show your medical certificate of fitness and submit to a mandatory COVID-19 screening by the NCDC, since only those who test negative will be admitted.
- Before being allowed inside the camp, you’ll be given a slip and subjected to physical and electronic security checks for forbidden objects.
- When you arrive at the camp, you will be assigned to a hostel, after which you will proceed to the store to purchase a mattress.
- Move to the registration unit with the documentation listed in your call-up letter after locating your bed space.
- Take a seat and follow the officer’s instructions.
- Present your slip, original copy of your call-up letter, original copy of your school certificate or statement of result, and institution’s identity card for manual verification when it is your turn to be attended to.
- Proceed to the ICT table for digital verification and state registration number issuing (code).
- To obtain a meal ticket and a number tag, proceed to the next unit. Until you receive a plastic corps member’s identity card, the number tag will function as your temporary identity card. The tag must be worn around your neck at all times.
- Bank staff will be at the hall to open an account for you, through which you’ll be paid your allowances right from the camp. So, locate the bank to which you have been assigned and ensure you fill account opening form before proceeding to the next step.
- Go to your platoon officer for your file and kit items (NYSC uniforms).

Note that your platoon number is the last digit of your state code.
For instance, if your given state code number is 0503, then you are in platoon 3.
Every corper is attached to a platoon and most of your activities including morning drills, competitions would be conducted according to platoons.
You would be given some small booklets like camp schedule, the NYSC anthem, rules, and regulations.

Electric appliances (stove, pressing iron, clipper, laptop, extensions), foodstuff that has to be cooked (raw rice, yams, noodles etc.) mattress from home, mirrors, weapons and metallic cutleries are known to be contraband items in the orientation camp. They are strictly prohibited!

These rules apply to all NYSC candidates. They must be adhered to by every single candidate so as to avoid ridiculous things that can lead to termination of service!
- No room for casual wears – once you get your camp kits, wear it! No room for casual wear. Only your T-shirt and shorts with the tennis shoe are allowed on you.
- Morning Regimented Programme – By 4:30pm should be at the parade ground. You have your praise, worship and prayer the Christian and Muslim ways. After the morning admonitions, by 7am, breakfast follows! After eating, you will be called out again for the series of programmes lined up for you. Then you have your lunch, rest a little and you are out again for the evening parade, then your dinner later. This will repeat itself everyday perhaps except on Sunday.
- Do not steal and do not allow your stuff to be stolen!
- Respect and obey the soldiers at the campground.
